Backyard Bio
Joseph Knoetgen established Backyard Skateboards Inc. in 2008 fueled by his two boys, Joe Jr (7) and Aidan (4) and their passion for skateboarding. Feeling the need for a positive addition to the skateboard industry and a new quality eco-friendly product, Joseph decided to make the company GREEN while maintaining the integrity of skateboarding and providing the finest quality products possible.
Backyard Skateboards Inc. and backyardskateboards.com belongs to the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC), the Action Sports Environmental Coalition (ASEC), and One Percent for the Planet (1%FTP).
1%FTP has a mission that is simple and right to the point. “1% for the Planet exists to build and support an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet.”

ASEC utilizes its collective assets to broaden the horizons of conscious consumption--paving the way for skateboarders, surfers, snowboarders, BMX bikers, and those passionately involved in the sports to achieve lasting sustainable benefits for individuals and community institutions. Like these sports, ecological sustainability is not just a trend--it is your chance to get involved and take action in a movement, and to leave behind those companies that only take from you, unconcerned about your needs, your body, your mind, and the fact that you do have a choice. This is your chance to lead, follow or be left behind.
